lace|heart|art exhibition at Crescent Beach Pop-Up Gallery has been cancelled

April 27, 2020

Unfortunately, our exhibition cannot open due to coronavirus lockdown. We have started to prepare this event two years ago, and considered ourselves lucky when we were selected by the Crescent Beach Pop-Up Gallery committee to present our event this year. We will try to re-schedule  – if we are lucky again, the exhibition might happen next year.

Our online exhibition is open to anybody with online access. In the last three weeks it has been viewed almost a thousand times!

Please visit the 3rd lace|heart|art online exhibition, and share the link with your friends.

Calling Metro Vancouver Lacemakers

Hello all precious lacemaking souls,
I am happy to share with you the news that we are going to have our own exhibition!
Last year, after presenting the lace|heart|art challenge at lace events in Courtenay, BC, and Spokane,WA, the lace|heart |art team started to think about finding a suitable venue in Metro Vancouver. We wanted to share the story of Barb’s Heart and how it inspired a unique challenge for creative lacemakers around the world. We are happy to confirm that our proposal to the City of Surrey was successful, and we were granted two weeks use of the Crescent Beach Pop-up Gallery.
The Gallery is situated right on one of the nicest beaches in Lower Mainland. It is a small, intimate space with excellent light, especially on sunny days. We are thrilled to make it ours for a short while and fill it with lots of lace and love.
The gallery has two rooms. One will be dedicated to the lace|heart|art and will feature hearts form the three editions of the challenge. The second room will house an educational component of the show – display of lacemaking tools, history panels, play lace pillow for the public etc. –
The rest of the room will be dedicated to original lace works. We invite you to help us to fill it, and present the best examples of creative potential inherent in handmade lace techniques.
  • Saturday & Sunday, May 2 & 3, 10am-6pm: gallery open to public
  • Friday, May 8, 6 – 8pm: artists reception, gallery open to public
  • Saturday & Sunday, May 9 & 10, 10am-6pm: gallery open to public
You may be wondering why we chose Mother’s Day weekend for the exhibition, when everybody has usually a lot of plans. That’s actually a part of the plan, because mothers and daughters’ theme runs through lace history and also through our lace|heart|art challenge. So we think that the lace|heart|art exhibition is the best place to visit with your mom. If you are lucky to spend the day together.
If not, there is another reason to come to Crescent Beach Pop-up Gallery – we plan to provide a large doily-like heart frame where visitors can take a photo portrait for a special Mother’s Day greeting!
If you are interested and available to participate, please contact me by email at
Looking forward to hearing from you, and working with you on yet another unforgettable lace event!

Fiber and Lace Show

Organizer: Langley Arts Council
Curator: Sybille Kissling
Artists: Sybille Kissling, Donna Leong, Wendy MacKinnon, Zula, Lenka Suchanek, Marina Szijarto, Pat Wrigley

Please join us for exhibition opening reception, on Thursday, September 20th, 2018, from 7 to 9 pm, at Langley Civic Centre, 20338 65 Ave, Langley, BC.

Fiber and Lace: Artists Call

Calling all Metro Vancouver bobbin lace makers who would like to present a piece in the Langley Art’s Council’s – Art in Found Spaces: Fiber and Lace Show. The exhibition will run from September 19th  until October 2nd. This will be held at the Langley Civic center (Township of Langley City Hall). All works must be hung and no greater than 16”x20”. This space can hold up to 20-24 works of art, we may be able to include more if there are many smaller works, or if we utilize the upper floors. Mixed media, fiber lace, bobbin lace, anything goes, as long as it is lace based. I would like to showcase the amazing work and talent of our local lace makers. Many people aren’t aware of hand made lace, and we can change that!

Please include a write on your piece complete with how long this piece took you (estimates are fine), how long you have been practicing for, and the inspiration of your piece. Also, please include what you used (fiber, wire, paint, photography, glass, etc.) and if this piece is for sale. All works must be submitted by August 31, 2018 to Sybille. Please contact her via email at  kisssyb  at gmail dot com, or through New School of Lace at  laceaway  at  gmail  dot  com.

After our exhibition, The Langley Arts Council will have their annual fundraiser November to December called Incognito. This would be a fine opportunity for us to support the organization that supports  fiber and lace art! Any type of work can be submitted as long as it is 10”x10” and 1.5” wide. Another great place to show off your amazing lace talents. All pieces are sold for $50 with $25 going to the artist and $25 going to the Arts Council. All work must be unsigned as it’s Incognito. Once the piece is sold, the buyer will find out the artist’s name and can request a signature. Please contact the Langley Arts Council for more information and to submit your work. Submission date TBA.

Creative Spring in Ocean Park

Spring is here and it brings joy of colours, fresh breeze, warm sunshine and an abundance of energy and creative ideas!

Way of Lace and New School of Lace are collaborating to present original lace art to the Ocean Park community and are inviting neighbours, friends, friends of friends, art connoisseurs and lace lovers to an informal afternoon exhibition with a title “Creative Spring in Ocean Park”. The show is concurrent with lacemaking workshop “Spring Blossoms – Apples, Quinces, Sakuras…” in which new lacemakers will create as much as beauty as the tree branches in our neighbourhood – in a traditional needle lace technique, one stitch and one bud at a time…

Also, we are pleased to introduce work of another lacemaker and fashion designer – Iva Kolotelo. Iva learned lacemaking with Lenka long time ago, and have incorporated some of her wire lace designs into accessories and objects she creates. Her main body of work, though, is a very unique up-cycled fashion, and she will present her Green Art Collection in our spring show in Ocean Park.

Join us to welcome the first day of spring with us, with art and with style!
