Denman & District Lace Club’s 100th Anniversary Getaway
An exhibition dedicated solely to handmade lace, will be presented in Comox, BC, as a part of a big event that all BC lacemakers are proud of, the Denman & District Lace Club’s 100th Anniversary Getaway.
If you have not heard about it yet, here is info provided by The Denman & District Lace Club:
Getaway and celebrations which will take place May 6 – 8, 2019 in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. The event will take place in the K’omox First Nations gymnasium.
The theme of course is the club’s 100th anniversary and we invite you to bring any piece (or pieces) of your lace that you are very proud to put on display.
Tuesday we will have a very special presentation by Donna DeJong with her collection of baby christening gowns. Wednesday morning we’ll continue lace making and socializing, then will enjoy a catered lunch. The afternoon is open to continue lace making, or for those who need to pack up for flights and ferries, to say their good-byes. Of course, there will be door prizes and favours throughout the event.
Registration can be made, and more information received, by contacting Ruby at ddlclacers@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing and celebrating with you ~

Art in Found Spaces: Fiber and Lace Show in Langley Civic Center
Township of Langley City Hall, Langley, BC
Langley Art’s Council’s exhibition curated by a designer and textile artist (and also the New School of Lace student), Sybille Kissling.
September 19 – October 2, 2018.
In this first exhibit dedicated exclusively to lace art, all Metro Vancouver lacemakers get a chance to show their creative lace work. We are very excited to have this special opportunity to share our love for lace. We are inviting you and your friends to come and see the Fiber & Lace Show!
The variety of the exhibited artworks is as wide as the variety of lacemaking techniques. From traditional to experimental, from fibre to wire, the works have one common feature – they were all made by hand – and they will for sure challenge your perception of what lace is and what it can become in hands of artists.
Opening reception is on Thursday, September 20th, from 7 to 9pm at the Langley Civic Centre, 20338 65 Ave in Langley, BC
LACE NOT LACE:

This unique exhibition is curated by internationally known lace expert Devon Thein. Lace not Lace showcases the work of contemporary fibre artists applying bobbin and needle lace techniques to a multitude of fibres and filaments in unlimited colours and textures to interpret their world. This exhibition will explore how lace makers are expanding the traditional boundaries of that art form and creating exciting work that investigates contemporary themes, materials and forms.
The work of more than 20 lace artists from across the United States and around the world is highlighted in this exhibition, which introduces bobbin and needle lace as techniques that reach beyond tradition and are now taking their place in contemporary art.
Works Are We Made of Lace? and Large Genoese Scallop are included in this show.
