3rd lace|heart|art prizes unveiled

Prizes for 3rd lace|heart|art challenge winners are ready.

Colourful linen, cotton and metallic threads from Barkonie s.r.o. (Czech Republic) for winners in Fibre and Young Lacemakers Categories, and enamelled copper wires form Wire Lace Supplies (Canada) for winners of Wire Lace Category, will be mailed as soon as possible.
We hope that these simple materials will be soon transformed into beautiful lace art!

Calling Metro Vancouver Lacemakers

Hello all precious lacemaking souls,

I am happy to share with you the news that we are going to have our own exhibition!

Last year, after presenting the lace|heart|art challenge at lace events in Courtenay, BC, and Spokane,WA, the lace|heart |art team started to think about finding a suitable venue in Metro Vancouver. We wanted to share the story of Barb’s Heart and how it inspired a unique challenge for creative lacemakers around the world. We are happy to confirm that our proposal to the City of Surrey was successful, and we were granted two weeks use of the Crescent Beach Pop-up Gallery.

The Gallery is situated right on one of the nicest beaches in Lower Mainland. It is a small, intimate space with excellent light, especially on sunny days. We are thrilled to make it ours for a short while and fill it with lots of lace and love.

The gallery has two rooms. One will be dedicated to the lace|heart|art and will feature hearts form the three editions of the challenge. The second room will house an educational component of the show – display of lacemaking tools, history panels, play lace pillow for the public etc. –

The rest of the room will be dedicated to original lace works. We invite you to help us to fill it, and present the best examples of creative potential inherent in handmade lace techniques.

Saturday & Sunday, May 2 & 3, 10am-6pm: gallery open to public
Friday, May 8, 6 – 8pm: artists reception, gallery open to public
Saturday & Sunday, May 9 & 10, 10am-6pm: gallery open to public

You may be wondering why we chose Mother’s Day weekend for the exhibition, when everybody has usually a lot of plans. That’s actually a part of the plan, because mothers and daughters’ theme runs through lace history and also through our lace|heart|art challenge. So we think that the lace|heart|art exhibition is the best place to visit with your mom. If you are lucky to spend the day together.

If not, there is another reason to come to Crescent Beach Pop-up Gallery – we plan to provide a large doily-like heart frame where visitors can take a photo portrait for a special Mother’s Day greeting!
