Workshop: ‘Art of Paisley”

Pre-requisite: basic experince with wire lace or previous lacemaking experience in fibre (familiarity with basic stitches – braid, cloth and whole stitch)
Instruction will cover: Cloth stitch tape, braids, picots, beaded gimp; finishing lace as wearable art.

Class project: Paisley art – wearable or frameable

Timeless paisley motif lends itself to wire lace beautifully and offers unlimited potential for variations. Starting with a simple paisley outline, we will use variety of stitches to fill in the pattern and then embelish it with beads. Additional variations will be discussed and demonstrated. Experimentation and creativity will be encouraged… because each paisley – and each lacemaker – is a unique original!

Tools: bring your own lacemaking pillow (cookie or bolster) and 12 pairs of bobbins. Special bobbins for wire will be available in class –  please let me know in advance if you need to borrow or buy any tools.

Material: enamelled copper wire 0.2mm (AWG32) and sead beads (various sizes) – bring your own or available in class for $5.00
