Workshop: “Sparkle! Earrings” – Needle Lace in Silver Wire

Instruction covers: Various needle lace stitches, beading, finishing and basic wire wrapping.
Class project: Needle lace earrings with crystal beads
Pre-requisites:
None for the beginners’ project.
Basic needle lace stitches and/or some experience working with very fine (0.2mm – AWG32) silver wire for the earrings in silver.
Description:
Inspired by winter sky and earth, Sparkle! intensive workshop follows twinkle of stars and frozen crystals to discover lace patterns in our worlds, close and far, and find in them inspiration for creative expression. Needle lace is a free form technique with enormous potential in fine jewellery making, and this workshop will explore its application in earring design.
Instruction is designed for beginners as well as lacemakers who have previous experience in needle lace. Beginners will learn to work with silver plated materials, while more experienced lacemakers will use fine silver wire and sterling silver earring frames.
Tools:
Beginners: Kit for beginners (student pillow, cover cloth, pins) is provided for all new students, available for purchase at $36 after the workshop.
Bring your own lacemaking pillow (cookie or bolster), regular dressmakers pins and some glass head pins, small sewing needles, jeweller’s cutters, fine chain nose and round nose pliers, paper scissors, note book, portable light
