Description:
This New School of Lace intensive workshop is offering variations on Christmas theme, which traditionally inspired numerous lace designs and patterns. Drawing on tradition, but encouraging originality, the workshop focuses on use of star geometry in plaited lace and explores its potential in creative lace design.

The workshop is designed for lacemakers who have taken any workshops or classes earlier this year, or who have previous experience in wire bobbin lace. Knowledge of braids, picots, windmills and tallies is helpful, as this pattern has lots of them in all possible combinations, and is a perfect skill excercise. The pattern requiring only 7 pairs of bobbins folds into 4-, 5- or 6-pointed star, which can be mounted on a Christmas card, framed as a picture, or finished as a hanging decoration.

The design can be used as a template for further variations, which could potentially lead to whole collections of handmade lace ornaments!

Pre-requisite:
This workshop is not suitable for complete beginners.
Basic experience with wire lace  (any previous New School of Lace workshops or courses) or previous lacemaking experience in fibre (familiarity with basic stitches – braid, picots) is required.

Instruction will cover:
Braids, picots; beading;  finishing lace as art.

Class project: Plaited lace ornament with beads

Tools:
Intermediate – bring your own lacemaking pillow (cookie or bolster) and 8 pairs of bobbins. (Special bobbins for wire will be available in class –  please let me know in advance if you need to borrow or buy any tools). Other tools: long pins and large picot pins, cover cloth.

Jeweller’s clippers and pliers helpfull.

Material: enamelled copper wire 0.2mm (AWG32)  – bring your own or available in class
