Workshop: “Sparkle!”

Inspired by winter sky and earth, Sparkle! intensive workshop follows twinkle of stars and frozen crystals to discover lace patterns in our worlds, close and far, and find in them inspiration for creative expression. Lace is an open weave technique with enormous potential of variations of interpretation. but where to start? which stitches to use? how to create freely and how to finish?
Sparkle! workshop answers these questions and more and opens door to an amazing world of free-form lace in wire. Instruction is designed for beginners as well as lacemakers who have previous experience in needle or bobbin lace in wire, especially those interested in to creating their own designs. Lacemakers will have the opportunity to learn working without template and building original patterns with basic stitches. Instruction will also cover beading and finishing the piece as wearable art or decorative ornament.

Participants can choose needle or bobbin lace, or choose to try both. The two designs can be used as an example for further explorations of free form lace in wire.

Needle lace part of this workshop is could be suitable for complete beginners.
For bobbin lace part, a basic experience with wire lace  (any previous New School of Lace workshops or courses) or previous lacemaking experience in fibre (familiarity with basic stitches – half stitch, cloth (linen) stitch is required.

Instruction will cover:
Basic stitches used in free-form;  finishing lace as wearable art.

Class project: Ornament with crystals in black enamelled frame

Bring your own lacemaking pillow (cookie or bolster) and 6 pairs of bobbins (for bobbin lace project). Special bobbins for wire will be available in class –  please let me know in advance if you need to borrow or buy any tools.
Jeweller’s cutters and fine nose pliers helpful, crochet hook size 10-12, paper scissors, note book

Material: enamelled silver plated copper wire 0.2mm (AWG32), crystals 4mm  – bring your own or available in class
