Bobbin Lace in Wire #11
Workshop: “Flowers and Butterflies”
Date: June 2017
Time: to be announced
Course and materials fee: TBA
Once the blossoms and flowers are out, it doesn’t take long for butterflies to show up and admire all the beauty – shapes, colours, fragrance – and who knows what else butterflies love about flowers. Because of that intimate relationship, butterflies also often figure in handmade lace designs.
This workshop is the first to look into potential of butterfly design in wire lace, and because the subject and the technique area perfect match and pattern possibilities are endless, there will for sure be more in the future. Join us to learn the basics and fly from there.
– basic experience with wire lace (any previous New School of Lace workshops or courses) or previous lacemaking experience in fibre (familiarity with half stitch, braids, sewings) is recommended.
– instruction will cover: starting, braids, half stitch weave, adding beads, finishing
Material: enamelled copper wire 0.2mm (AWG32), glass beads, ear wires, pendant bail
Tools: bring your own lacemaking pillow (cookie or bolster) and 12 pairs of bobbins for wire lace (fine recommended, medium will work well, too), jeweller’s cutters, fine nose and round nose pliers helpful, crochet hook size 10-12, paper scissors, note book
